About this build

A byte-exact rebuild of Link's Awakening DX from the zladx assembly disassembly, played in the browser on a WebAssembly Game Boy Color core. You supply your own cartridge dump: it is read in the page and handed straight to the emulator, and the page's Content-Security-Policy stops any script on it reaching the network at all. The same source builds all ten retail revisions — English, Japanese, German and French, v1.0 through v1.2 — and every one matches upstream's documented checksum.

Built from

What has been tested

Byte-exact build verified against the user's own dump and all 14 upstream artifacts. In the browser: 26/26 automated checks, muted — ROM picked through the real file input, a save file created and named, Link woken, the shield taken from Tarin, and the starting house left for the overworld, gated on wGameplayType/wGameplaySubtype/wIsIndoor read from the build's own symbol table. Battery save proven to survive a reload by decoding the file name out of it on a cold page.

Last tested 2026-10-05 in Chrome 151 headless (SwiftShader). Full playthrough: not verified. How games are tested.

Known limitations

Saves

The cartridge's battery save is kept in this browser's IndexedDB, keyed by your ROM's SHA-1, and restored automatically next time you load the same ROM. Export .sav writes it out as a normal 32 KB save file, and Import .sav reads one back in. Clearing site data removes it.
