About this build
Open Road runs on OpenNFS, the open-source rewrite of the classic 1990s road-racing engine, compiled to WebAssembly and drawn with WebGL2. Nine classic circuits keep their track geometry while every texture is regenerated by the clean-room pipeline; three more circuits and the three cars are original. Car and brand names are generic, and sound is synthesised in the page.

What has been tested
Headless loads of all 12 circuits reach "ready", and an autopilot run drives the player's car around a race through the normal controls. Nobody has raced it by hand yet.
Last tested 2026-10-10 in Chrome (headless, muted). Full playthrough: not verified. How games are tested.
The build's own test log is in STATUS.md in its repository.
Known limitations
- Work in progress: regenerated textures differ from the original game by design.
- Cars are original generic models, not the licensed cars of the original.
- A start-up crash seen on some circuits during development is mitigated but its cause is not found; reload the page if a track fails to load.
- Sound is synthesised, with no recorded engine samples or music.
