About this build
Signal Survey retains Rogue native movement, collision, combat, actor AI, health, inventory, item effects and ascent victory. Independently authored CC0 layouts, encounters, glyphs, names, messages and ending panels replace the reference presentation and procedural dungeon. This is a developer-source port with an original replacement campaign, not a decompilation, emulator, original retail campaign or clean-room certificate. It needs no ROM or original media and is silent.
- Built from
- Rogue 5.4.4 native C gameplay with an independently authored terminal/browser adapter
- Type
- Source port
- Game files
- No ROM, retail executable, original PNG/font/map or audio needed. Text-only game and source-only rebuild package; no bundled retail media.
- Code licence
- BSD-3-Clause-style grant naming original Rogue authors, with separate retained save notices; own adapters MIT. Emscripten MIT/NCSA, musl MIT/individual notices, LLVM Apache-2.0 WITH LLVM-exception and dlmalloc public-domain/adaptation notices. See bundled NOTICE.txt.
- Assets
- CC0-1.0 authored three-station maps/encounters, 95 glyph definitions, item/actor/material presentation names, replacement messages, ending panels and edition UI. Native algorithms/numerical tables/save constants retain code licenses.

What has been tested
Ordinary keys complete all three authored stations, collect the native lens and return to native victory; collision, capped descent, damage, native death and fresh retry. Floor-two native checkpoint survives full browser shutdown with equal position, health, depth, food, equipment and actors; Continue saved, checkpoint consumption, simulated focus and native Stop tested. Invalid checkpoints and missing/changed/stalled payloads fail before native gameplay. Extracted source-only package reproduces WASM. Site and production receipts recorded separately; no original dungeon, all modes or audible claim.
Last tested 2026-10-14 in Headless Microsoft Edge on Windows; muted. Full playthrough: verified. How games are tested.

Known limitations
- Three authored stations and their lens-return objective; not the original Rogue dungeon or every native feature.
- Normal-key campaign completion, collision, lens pickup, damage, native victory, death/retry, floor-two checkpoint across full browser shutdown, Continue saved and Stop tested. Not an exhaustive RNG-state or all-item/command audit.
- Keyboard and WebAssembly required. Touch, controllers, physical app switching and other browsers/devices remain unverified.
- Silent edition with no audio API/device or audio assets; audible playback unavailable/unverified.
- Checkpoint validation is bounded compatibility validation, not a security or tamper-proofing certificate. Real quota exhaustion and crash/rapid-close behavior remain unverified.
- Portable source rebuilds native game and adapters. Compiler and standard-library objects are externally managed by the SDK; no independently rebuilt SDK or upstream release-history certificate.
Saves
Use S and Y, or Save and exit followed by Y, with the default /rogue.save path. Continue saved or the next launch restores that checkpoint in this origin/profile. Successful restoration consumes it; save again before closing to retain further progress. New expedition discards the checkpoint. Clearing browser site data erases saves. Unsupported or stale checkpoints are rejected; no portable import/export or save migration is claimed.
